Progress

May 2022

Work on major Northgate development now complete.

The Northgate development has seen the transformation of the former central library and Council offices. The library section opened as Trinity Sixth Form Academy in September 2020 and the remaining space has been developed to provide high-quality office space and a new retail and leisure offer in the heart of Halifax.

November 2021

Work to create premium office and retail space in Halifax town centre is nearing completion.

The Northgate development has been developed to provide high-quality office space and a new retail and leisure offer in the heart of Halifax.

The office space has been tailored to the requirements of the tenant, RSA, the multi-national insurance group. This has included the installation of a raised access floor, suspended ceiling and new staff facilities including meeting rooms and break out spaces, as well as complex mechanical, electric and plumbing systems

The courtyard area has now been levelled, creating a welcoming space off Market Street, with seating, planters and lighting. Level access is also available from this area to the retail units and office space.

Formal handover of the office space to RSA is due to take place later this year.

May 2021

Work continues on the office elements ready for a handover in the summer.

Work on the ground floor units is progressing. The units around the courtyard are suitable for retail, food and beverage, or offices. They are available for businesses to rent later in 2021.

December 2020

Work began to refurbish the former Council offices. Royal Sun Alliance have let the full office space for occupation in summer 2021.

2020

The Sixth Form Centre welcomed its first students in September 2020, in spite of the challenges COVID 19 presented to the project. Design of the office and retail elements has continued throughout, planned to open in summer 2021.

April 2019

Work started on site.

September 2018

Full planning permission for the site granted.
