Brighouse residents and businesses are being invited to discover and discuss the latest designs for the future of the town as work continues on the Town Deal which will see £19.1 million of investment over the next three years.

The Brighouse Deal aims to transform the town centre, making it a more attractive place to visit, spend time and spend money benefitting residents, shoppers, visitors, retailers and businesses, with investment in the public realm, a new market building and creation of event and community spaces.

The latest plans will be on show from Monday 15 May on the Brighouse Deal website with a chance for everyone to have their say, see the designs and give feedback for three weeks until Sunday 4 June.

This period will also see two public open events taking place – the first on Saturday 20 May between 10am – 3pm at Brighouse Open Market and the second later that week on Wednesday 24 May between 6pm – 8pm at Brighouse Central Methodist Church.

Visitors will be able to see the plans on display boards and discuss the designs with members of the project delivery team and the Brighouse Town Deal Board. At the Saturday event, there will also be additional creative activities for all.

At both, there will be a chance to see the latest plans, examine the designs, ask questions about the proposals and find out what happens next. Information packs will also be available at Brighouse Library and at locations in the town centre.

David Whitehead, co-chair of the Brighouse Town Deal Board, said:

“The Brighouse Deal investment will have a huge impact on our town centre and we are excited by the changes which will encourage more people to come to the town, spend longer and spend more boosting our economy, creating jobs and being a catalyst for even more improvements in the future.

“We understand though that many residents, shops, businesses and venues have lots of questions about what it will mean for them, which is why we have always been committed to sharing the plans, discussing them in detail and improving them. This process is at a crucial stage and I would encourage everyone to take a look at the plans and have their say in the coming weeks.”

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Towns, Engagement and Public Health, Cllr Sarah Courtney, said:

“We’re delighted to be able to share the latest exciting plans for Brighouse which show the projects really taking shape and moving a step closer to becoming a reality.

“The significant Brighouse Deal investment will truly transform areas of the town, making it an even better place to live, visit and do business. We’ve listened to local people throughout the process of developing the plans, and look forward to showing them the latest designs for improvements around the town.”

Projects have to be completed by March 2026, and depending on the outcome of the engagement process, planning applications and contract tenders, it is hoped building work could begin early next year.
