Plans

This project will enable people to walk or cycle as part of their everyday journeys, and support more people to access and enjoy Todmorden and its natural landscapes.

We are:

  • Adding a new puffin crossing outside Todmorden CE J, I and N School to improve safety and access to the school.
  • Widening the pavement from Todmorden CE J, I and N School to Centre Vale Park.
  • Installing 'pencil' bollards outside Todmorden CE J, I and N School. The bollards make for a safer environment, discourage pavement parking and encourage people to reduce their speed.
  • Improving the towpath along the Rochdale Canal between Todmorden town centre and Walsden. The improved towpath will support easier access to the town centre.
  • Repainting the zebra crossing outside Centre Vale Park and improving tactile paving to assist partially sighted.
  • Creating a new attractive and pleasant public space outside 'Mr Beans' café.
  • Resurfacing 'tipside' between Hallroyd Crescent and the town centre, part of National Cycle Network Route 66, to create a safe and accessible route for walking and cycling.
  • Installing new lighting in Centre Vale Park.
  • Improving signage with clearer information for residents and visitors.
  • Adding new cycle parking throughout Todmorden.

This project is part of the Todmorden Town Deal, a regeneration programme worth £17.5m to:

  • help secure the future of local markets and businesses;
  • provide purpose-built facilities for start-ups and enterprise, and some affordable housing;
  • develop green spaces for better health and wellbeing;
  • secure the future of community learning, arts and heritage spaces;
  • bring more investment into Todmorden and build on what is.
