Zone 1: Dean Clough and Lee Bridge to Ovenden Way via Shroggs Road

In zone 1  we’re creating shared walking and cycling routes and a better walking experience. There will be safe cycling routes, new crossings, and safer roads.

Benefits

New shared walking and cycling route

A new shared walking and cycling route along Shroggs Road will link A629 Ovenden Road and Lee Bridge. We are planning to add new crossings for walking and cycling at the junction of A629 Ovenden Road and Shroggs Road, and across Lee Bank.

The new route along Lee Bridge will link Shroggs Road and Dean Clough at Gate 9.

A better walking experience

We’re improving the look and feel of public spaces along the new routes. There will be artworks, landscaping, and new crossings. We will upgrade street lighting too.

We will widen footways, add crossing points and introduce a 20mph speed limit along Dean Clough from Corporation Street to North Bridge.

Better, safe walking and cycling

We’re proposing:

  • A new shared walking and cycling route on Shroggs Road from A629 Ovenden Road to Lee Bridge.
  • New crossing at the junction of Ovenden Road and Shroggs Road.
  • New zebra crossings on Lee Bank.
  • New shared walking and cycling route and widened pavement along Lee Bridge.
  • New zebra crossing linking the new shared walking and cycling route to bus stops.
  • Widened pavement along Lee Bridge towards Dean Clough.
  • New cycleway on widened pavement along Lee Bridge linking to Corporation Street.
  • New artwork and views over Dean Clough.
  • New cycleway on Corporation Street.
  • A shared footpath and cycleway around Crib Lane car park leading to Akroyd Place.
  • Separate footpath and cycleway along Akroyd Place leading to North Parade.
  • A new 20mph speed limit along Cross Hills and Dean Clough with new speed tables, wider footpaths and new crossings.

Parking

On Akroyd Place and Corporation Street, we’re moving the on-street parking to the opposite side of the road and creating a new parking area under the flyover.

We’re removing some parking along Lee Bridge so we can widen the pavements.
