Work has begun on improvements to public spaces in Todmorden town centre, as part of the £17.5million Todmorden Town Deal project.

The Public Places in the Heart of Todmorden project will develop Bramsche Square and the surrounding area into a welcoming, attractive and more accessible public space in Todmorden town centre.

Calderdale Council is delivering the project, with civil engineering and construction company CR Reynolds now appointed as the contractor to carry out the works.

Construction work started on site at the bottom of Halifax town centre in April. This work is the ‘eastern’ phase of the A629 phase 2 Halifax town centre project, which is fully funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Construction is complete at the top of town (the ‘western’ phase), which has included improvements at Bull Green, the junction of Cow Green and Pellon Lane, the junction of Commercial Street and Fountain Street, and surrounding areas.

Construction of the new leisure centre and swimming pool for Halifax has started, marking the next major phase of development for the state-of-the-art facility.

Preparation works have been ongoing over the last few months to get the site ready, which included site surveys and the partial demolition of the old North Bridge Leisure Centre.

Contractor Tilbury Douglas has now officially begun work on the new build, with the delivery of a construction piling rig on site – a huge, specialised drill that will help create the foundations for the building.

Work will soon complete on improvements around the top of Halifax, with new road layouts, routes and junctions as part of a wider project to make all types of travel easier and safer.

The Council is delivering the A629 phase 2 Halifax town centre project, which is fully funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. The project aims to improve journey times for everyone, make travel safer, improve public spaces and air quality, and boost economic growth.

The full stretch of towpath on the Rochdale canal in Calderdale will soon be fully accessible for the first time, as work begins to install bridge decks along the canal weirs.

Calderdale Council is supporting work to improve access across seven weirs on the Rochdale canal between Todmorden and Luddendenfoot, in partnership with the Canal and River Trust, the nation’s largest canal charity.  Around £400k of Active Travel England funding secured through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will support the project,

Key walking and cycling upgrades are set for approval.

West Yorkshire leaders are set to give the go-ahead for the first phase of a project which will see a new rail station and improved cycling and walking infrastructure built in Elland.

The new station will be added to the Calder Valley line and will improve the town’s transport links with the wider region and beyond, including Leeds, Huddersfield, Bradford and Manchester.

Calderdale Council’s ambitious project to transform travel in and around Halifax is moving forward. Construction work at the top of town (western side) is nearly complete, with work around the bottom of town (eastern section) following later this spring.

The next steps in the £2.56 million Active Todmorden project are taking shape, with work beginning soon on improving part of the National Cycle Network Route 66, known locally as ‘Tipside’.

The Active Todmorden project is one part of the £17.5 million Todmorden Town Deal regeneration programme, funded by the UK Government and delivered in partnership with the Todmorden Town Deal Board.
